When Luke decided to propose to Karli, he asked us to be there to capture it all. We joined both of their families at Nicklas Tree Farms one frosty Michigan morning to begin the surprise. We hid amongst the pine trees as the families orchestrated the “search for the perfect Christmas tree” plan and began to shoot as Luke got down on one knee with the ring.

We’ve been lucky enough to celebrate with Luke, Karli, and their families throughout their love story, beginning with the proposal, followed by the engagement session, and then their beautiful barn wedding at Frutig Farms in Ann Arbor. We’ve gotten to know their families further over the years now, as we have also photographed their siblings’ senior sessions.

And now sweet baby Max. Gahhh, what a cutie! We recently visited Luke, Karli, baby Max, and pup Levy at their home. Max had no interest in letting us take quiet, sleeping baby photos, because he was ready to party; kicking and stretching his arms and legs in all directions. Levy was a willing sidekick and wanted to be everywhere her new brother was. She followed the action from room to room, protecting (aaaand maybe sharing the spotlight with) Max during his solo shots, and hopping up with her family as they snuggled on the bed together:)

Thank you both for allowing us into your lives and trusting us with your most special moments! We’ve loved documenting your story so far and look forward to what is still to come…

It rained, it poured, and it was absolutely perfect. On September 17th, 2018, Heather married the love of her life, Charles on the beach of the Royalton White Sands in Jamaica. Their guests, family and friends alike, spent days celebrating with the couple as they soaked up the sun poolside, enjoyed rum cocktails, dined, went sailing, and even won a cannonball contest by jumping hand in hand.

Nearly the entire wedding day, the forecast called for thunderstorms. Because of this, we started shooting a little more than three hours early. Our goal was to get as many beautiful outdoor detail shots taken to provide a tropical feel for the couple while we were able. Then, miraculously, the weather held out through not just photographing the details, but for the getting ready, first look, family, and bridal portraits.

But then came the rain, thunder, and lightning. Heather and her bridesmaids huddled like pretty angels in the resort spa, always in good spirits. There was lightning! Had they not seen it? I was totally caught off guard when I started hearing, “Ok. Let’s go!” from the wedding planner. They had dreamed of a beach wedding and they got it. Guests donned pool towels, umbrellas, and smiles. No matter the weather, Heather and Charles’ supporters were with them all the way.

The light Heather and Charles bring to one another is so apparent. Like, I don’t think either one stopped laughing the entire day, except perhaps to shed a few tears while delivering their heartfelt, handwritten vows to one another, seemingly oblivious to the rain. As they say,¬†“Life is not so much about waiting for the storms to pass as it is about learning to dance in the rain.” Here’s to a lifetime of laughter and love!

Luke + Karli. Michigan winter tree farm proposal

This frosty December morning found us on a hilltop hiding amongst the trees at Nicklas Tree Farms in Metamora, MI. We waited for Luke to lead Karli up the hill in search of the perfect tree. When they reached the top, he got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. She said yes and we followed as they cut their first tree and celebrated with their family.
